Great choice if you want a free, open source, and easy to use text editor.. Very stable, easy and clean interface. It's gtk dependance provides an quiet simple way to change it's look completely, by simply changing the theme settings with the corresponding tool (for example, gtk-theme-switch2, for gkt2 in GNU/Linux platform). There aren't so many cons, but to name one, this isn't the fastest FLOSS text editor out there. It could be lightened a bit. Pros: Clean InterfaceSupport for reserved words highlight in many languagesGreat reliability and stabilityAn enormous growing community providing support. Cons: Not the fastest text editorSame concept as in many other applications (it could be more innovative)

Best simple text editor in the world. It have anything you need to edit simple text and program code. It has many unique features like remote editing, syntax highliting and much more. It also supports many plugins.It uses as low memory as it can only be and allows you to work easily even with large files. Pros: - Extremely lightweight and fast- Low memory consuming- Remote access- Available for many operating systems

Way Cooler than Notepad!! :D. I used this program in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) and loved it! I like the fact that you can use highlights for programming. This program is all you'll need for text! Better than Notepad, Wordpad (write.exe) or any other basic text editor. Fast, easy, epic! Pros: Highlights for programmingLayout Cons: LOL! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH THERE ARE NO CONS!!! :D
